Shell Malaysia intends to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOU) with touch ‘n go to enable Malaysians to pay for gasoline using RFID tags on their vehicles. For those who miss the free RFID tags, 10000 tags will be provided free between February 15 and March 31, 2020.
Currently, 950 shell gas stations support touch ‘n go wallet payment, and Malaysians will soon experience RFID refueling. According to touch ‘n go, payments can be made across spaces without any interaction with their smartphone or point of sale system. Users can view their payment details through the touch ‘n go wallet app.
Last week, touch ‘n go announced plans to extend the use of RFID tags beyond highway tolls. Users can expect RFID parking in the third quarter of 2020 and RFID refueling in the fourth quarter of 2020. The company also plans to introduce RFID enabled retail payments for drive in vehicles in the first quarter of 2021.
Touch ‘n go also provides free RFID tags at designated gas stations for consumers using TNG wallets. There are 10 gas stations involved in these projects.
From February 15, 2020, TNG RFID tags will be sold at the price of RM35 each, including one-time replacement on the same vehicle.
In addition, touch’n go and shell Malaysia announced a special promotion for etunai Rakyat users who use TNG ewallets. When the user consumes at least RM20 at Shell gas stations nationwide, the user can get a cash return of RM5 + 2. The E-wallet campaign will run from February 17 to March 14, 2020.
